Communications Commitee

Chair:  Andrea Scowcroft

The primary role of this committee is to foster effective communications within the Uxbridge Swim Club and with the community at large. These goals are accomplished in a variety of ways.

Within USC, a Telephone Chain is used to pass on messages or to gather information. Members of this Committee will each be responsible for one part of the 'Chain'. When the chain is used to request baked goods, drinks and other foods for the USC-hosted meets, all member families are contacted and requested to donate specific items. The Chairperson will activate the chain when asked by other Chairs or by the Coaches.

The Club newsletter, USC SPLASH, is published three times per year and is used to convey results achieved by swimmers, upcoming events and other information important to the smooth operation of the Club. The newsletter is also sent to all Corporate Sponsors.

The USC handbook is given to each new family at an Orientation session in October and updates are issued annually for returning families for insertion in the USC binder.

Members of this committee prepare articles for the Uxbridge Times-Journal based on the results of the swim meets. The Times-Journal photographer is contacted for the 4 meets held at Uxpool and asked to cover the event.

The Chair of the committee organizes the mentorship program for families new to the Swim Club. Each new ('rookie') family is paired with a returning ('veteran') family and the pairs are introduced at the Orientation session early in October. Swimmers from the 'veteran' families are introduced to the new swimmers and show them the routines for swim practices.

One member of the committee organizes the float for the Santa Claus Parade and another member of the committee arranges for a local photographer to do team photos late in the fall or early in January.
